Subject:
Endorse AB 1294, introduced by Assembly Members Gene Mullin and Mark Leno. Allows city, county or district to use ranked voting
for elections.

Background and Purpose:
The Green Party of California supports implementation of ranked voting. AB 1294 introduced by Assembly Members Gene Mullin and Mark Leno provides the constitutional legalities to allow any city, county or district to institute ranked voting for elections.

AB 1294 would provide that, notwithstanding any provision of law, a city, county, or district may conduct a local election using ranked voting. This bill would specify the ranked voting method as it applies to both a single-candidate election and a multiple-candidate election.
