Proposal for GPCA General Assembly, May 26th-27th, 2006

Subject:
Endorse AB583

Sponsor: Electoral Reform Working Group

Presenter:
Jo Chamberlain, joc@pob.com

Subject:
Endorse AB583, Assembly Member Loni Hancock (Coauthors: Berg, Jones, Mullin, and Torrico). Political Reform Act
of 1974: California Clean Money and Fair Elections Act of 2007.

Background and Purpose:
The Green Party of CA supported AB 583 by endorsement at the Yolo Plenary in December 2005. Unfortunately it died in the Senate Elections Committee. Because GPCA supports public funding of candidate campaigns we should vote to endorse this bill of the same
number and language.

Assembly Member Loni Hancock has reintroduced AB 583, which will provide funding for all CA state campaigns. It provides a two-step process for Green Party candidates to receive full funding.

Additional Background: With implementation of AB 583, Green Party candidates will have the opportunity to qualify for significant funding. If they receive 10% of the vote that office becomes office-qualified for full funding in the next election.
