Subject: Endorse
ACA17, lowers the vote age in CA to 17.
Background and Purpose: This
bill has not been read as of this writing but is the same bill introduced
by Assembly Member Gene Mullin in 2006. It
lowers the voting age to 17.
Voter turnout has continued to decline. Teaching highs school students
to vote and making voting part of a person's culture greatly increases
the likelihood of becoming a life time voter.
Proposal: Endorse ACA 17 (Approval Threshold - any
proposal that receives any objection shall be removed from the consent
calendar before approval as per GPCA Bylaw 5-8.11)
Committee Decision: Consensus
Time Line: Immediate Endorsement
Resources: Press Release. Electoral Reform Working Group budgeted
monies for travel to testify at committee hearings in Sacramento
