Hello all, The newspaper of the Green Party of California is slowly taking shape! We have pretty much all aspects of the paper organized. We are sending this message out to members of the GROW list and to all those who volunteered to help out with the project to update you on the latest and also to give you information on how local groups and Green individuals can get involved or obtain copies of the paper. Note that the following are still not confirmed by the GPCA coordinating committee so some details may change. If you have submitted articles for the newspaper already, we thank you and we appreciate your patience. If you have volunteered then we will be contacting you soon with some real work! ----------- The publication of the Green Party of California will be named Green Focus. As announced earlier, Green Focus provides a forum for discussion and analysis of environmental and social justice news and views, with an emphasis on issues important to Californians. Of course, our main focus is on issues that are relevant to the Green Party platform. The first special issue is planned for mid-September, which will be a revision of the current slate paper and will focus on the Green Party candidates and issues for November 2002. The following issue is planned for December of this year and we are now accepting submissions for it. We will have our website set up soon at www.cagreens.org/greenfocus but you can already contact us at greenfocus@cagreens.org. The main editors for the paper currently are Laura Wells (our candidate for state controller) and me. SUBMISSIONS: The emphasis of Green Focus is on Green issues such as environment, social justice, domestic and foreign policy, the U.S. electoral system, etc (these would include energy, corporate abuses and electoral reform, affordable housing, living wage, Fast Track and FTAA, the prison-industry complex, education, health care, immigrants rights, and U.S. foreign policy). We are also interested in submissions by Green Party activists on local organizing methods. The newspaper will serve as a form of communication to Green Party members and as an outreach tool for the general public and each issue will also contain couple of articles in Spanish. So basically, we would need the following: News articles in English or Spanish (brief analyses of news developments or Green Party related news), Opinion articles (a more in-depth analysis of current issues or discussion of Green Party theory), Book reviews, Cartoons and Photos as well as Letters to the Editor eventually. Info on where to send submissions will be made available soon. SUBSCRIPTIONS: Once someone becomes a Sustainer of the GPCA, they will automatically receive a one year subscription to Green Focus. The Sustainer rates are $25 or $15 for low income. For $35 you will also receive free Green Party merchandise. All local groups of the GPCA will be asked to pay for the cost of the printing (so that we don't lose any money). Locals are free to sell it at a suggested price and keep any proceeds. VOLUNTEERS: We already have a number of volunteers, but if you are interested in helping out as a writer, editor, researcher, photographer, cartoonist, graphics or layout person, please contact us at greenfocus@cagreens.org As soon as our website becomes available, we will notify all GPCA local group contacts. -Karine
