================================== NEWSLETTER ================================== Laura Wells and I have been emailing back and forth. We met briefly at the Campaigns and Candidates Workshop in SF but there wasn't much time to organize. We will be meeting, however, during the week of June 24-28 (i'm going to San Jose area for my job) and hopefully, we will make all the final decisions by then. She will also be coming down to San Diego in July so that should help in our coordination. Here's the update on this project and some of the decisions made so far: CO-COORDINATORS: Laura Wells for the Northern California region and me for the Southern part ** TITLE: Still not decided. I sent out all the suggestions I had received; Laura likes Green Light. I think Green California was better. I actually liked Green Vanguard but Laura thought it was too revolutionary :-) TIMING: We're thinking of having it coincide with plenaries since it would save us on shipping costs coz locals can just pick them up there. Next one is to be out, hopefully, early August. It will then be made available during the Green Gathering. ** FOCUS: This is an ongoing discussion and has not been finalized. The main ideas are to have a paper that is both for Greens and for the general public (i.e., an outreach tool for tabling). It would have a combination of shorter pieces of more general interest and longer in-depth. I have been wondering whether we should also include any info for activists on organizing within their communities. And there was also discussion on how much candidate info should be in there -- we kind of agreed that it should be more focused on issues that candidates run on rather than voter guides (unless there is one for GPCA in general) or electoral statistics since that's what the Green Pages does. We talked about including local info. We decided that it would be too complicated and costly to do separate versions so we will just ask locals to put in an insert on local events and articles. PLAN: I have compiled a list of volunteers (writers, researchers, layout, editing, etc) and have sent it to Laura Wells. The plan now is to get together and start determining the tasks and projects and distribute tasks among volunteers. Hopefully, that would be done by end of June. ** PRICE/SUBSCRIPTIONS: We need to discuss the price for the newspaper and subscription amount. We also need to decide how to process subscriptions. How much do you think we should charge for the newspaper? And what about the subscription amount? We were thinking of $15 or $20 for the yearly subscriptions. Also, I have been suggesting that we make the papers available to locals at cost and have them sell it and keep the profits they make so that it could be used as a small fundraising tool as well. However, if the GPCA can underwrite the newspapers so that they are made available for free, then that's even better for outreach purposes! WEBSITE PRESENCE: Future plans are to create an online version of the newspaper on the GPCA website.
