Green Party
of Los Angeles County
Opposes Measure B
on the Los
Angeles, March 3rd ballot
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – February
23, 2009
Green Party of Los Angeles County Council Opposes Los
Angeles City Ballot Measure B - 'Solar Energy and Job Creation
Program.'
The
Green Party of Los Angeles County Council opposes Los Angeles
City Ballot Measure B: Solar Energy and
Job Creation
Program. Measure B appears on the March 3, 2009 City
of Los Angeles Primary Nominating and Consolidated
Elections Ballot.
Measure B is an overly expensive and hastily-conceived
proposal that was placed on the ballot without any
substantial input from official city agencies, municipal
utilities,
community groups, trade organizations, or citizens.
If allowed to pass, it would benefit few regional industries
and limit bidding to one single union organization.
We
join with numerous Measure B opposition groups to state
that there is a more efficient way to produce more
renewable energy power at a lower cost to the taxpayer.
With
this decision, the Green Party of Los Angeles County Council
joins the growing number of elected officials, three LA
City Council members -- Bernard Parks, Dennis Zine and
Greg Smith, thirty-two Neighborhood Councils, at least
seven homeowner groups and business organizations, the
LA County Republican Party, nine city election candidates
for Mayor, and the Harbor Progressive Democrat Club to
oppose Measure B.
