LA COUNTY GREENS CELEBRATE PASADENA CITY COLLEGE RACE VICTORY

Los Angeles County Greens congratulate Pasadena Green Hilary Bradbury-Huang on her impressive victory to the Pasadena Area Community College Board of Governors on November 8th.

Bradbury-Huang won with 51.12% of the vote in a two-way race, defeating a 27-year incumbent to become the seventh Green currently holding elected office in Los Angeles County.

"I am excited to be replacing a 27-year incumbent, because it will allow me to bring a sustainability agenda to light for students at Pasadena City College," said Bradbury-Huang.

A professor at USC and Pepperdine University, Bradbury-Huang campaigned on listening more to students and teachers, and to be willing to question the College administration when necessary.

Her door to door grassroots campaign reached almost every voter in her district, which contains the communities of South Pasadena, San Marino and Temple City, and she was supported in this effort by the Arroyo Seco Greens, the local Green group in her area, according to group coordinator Tera Little.

Bradbury-Huang joins Santa Monica Rent Control Board member Jeff Sklar, four Green members of neighborhood councils in the City of Los Angeles and a Green town council advisory member in an unincorporated part of Los Angeles County, as Green officeholders in the County. As of November 9th, 25,513 people were registered Green in Los Angeles County, the most in any county in the nation, and more than in any other state except New York.

Overall, four of the five California Greens won ran on November 8th won their races, bringing to 66 the number of Greens currently holding elected office across the state. Nationally, over 220 Greens hold elected office, with at least 36 winning elected office in 2005.
