Central Farm
Greens
support preserving the South Central Farm for
local residents to grow their own food, build economic
self-reliance and create an ecological oasis in the middle
of Los Angeles. The
South Central Farmers have been forcibly evicted from their
land. But

Farming: LA City Council votes on Fate of South Central
Farm. Fate of
Disputed South Central Farm site will be decided by LA
City Council vote. In 2003,
the City of LA sold the South Central Farm to a developer
in a closed door session. The farmers were
evicted in 2006. LA City Council promised to set aside
2.6 acres for public park space. Today the City Council
committee will hear comments regarding Jan Perry's recommendation
to remove the park space provision. PIMA, a garment industry
group, demands that it be removed as a prerequisite for
purchasing the land to build a warehouse. The LA City Council
committee voted 4 to 0 to send the proposal to the full
council.

Former Santa Monica Mayor and current Green Party of California
spokesperson Michael Feinstein opposes warehouse development on
the site of the South Central Farm in Los Angeles and asks that
the city honor its agreement to put 2.6 acres of park there in
an interview with KTLA TV Los Angeles and in testimony to the Los
Angeles City Council Planning and Land Use committee. October 24th,
