Long Beach Greens
Ballot Recommendations for the November 2, 2010 Statewide Election
| Proposition | Short Summary | Recommendation |
| 19 | Legalizes marijuana under California but not Federal law, and permits local governments to regulate and tax commercial production, distribution, and sale of marijuana. | Although more peopel die from alcohol or cigarettes, we continue to criminalize pot, putting more people in jail for non-violent crimes. This proposition reduces prison costs, increases tax revenue, and just makes common sense. Vote Yes. |
| 20 | Extends 2008’s Prop 11 (redistricting commission) to federal congressional districts. | Although we supported Prop 11 in 2008, it is too early to extend this initiative to Federal races, which may also affect the balance of representation in Congress from CA in proportion to other States. Vote no for now. |
| 21 | Establishes $18 annual vehicle license surcharge to help fund state parks and wildlife programs and grants surcharged vehicles free admission to all state parks. | The Long Beach Greens strongly support this initiative, which provides value for your fee by providing access to every State park to CA motor vehicles. Vote Yes. |
| 22 | Prohibits the state from raiding funds used for transportation, redevelopment, or local government projects and services. | Although we oppose the State continuing to find new loopholes to raid funds, we oppose additional propositions that lock in funding - especially funding more paving roads and redevelopment boondoggles - when we have a dysfunctional budgeting system in CA. Vote NO |
| 23 | Suspends implementation of air pollution control law (ab 32). | The Long Beach Greens strongly oppose Prop 23, bankrolled by Texas oil companies who want to indiscriminately pollute our state. Vote NO |
| 24 | Repeals recent legislation that would allow out of state corporations to lower their tax liability. | Allowing multi-national corporations based outside of CA to avoid paying taxes is a stupid idea. Vote Yes to repeal these corporate tax breaks. |
| 25 | Changes legislative vote requirement to pass budget and budget-related legislation from two-thirds to a simple majority. Retains two-thirds vote requirement for taxes. | This initiative is CRUCIAL to begin to reform our broken political system. End the tyranny of the minority that has deadlocked our State. Support majority rule. Vote Yes. |
| 26 | Requires that certain state and local fees be approved by two-thirds vote. Fees include those that address adverse impacts on society or the environment caused by the fee-payer’s business. | This initiative makes all levels of government subject to a 2/3 vote requirement for virtually every type of fee imaginable. It's an attempt to strangle government services, such as fire, police, public works, schools, hospitals and libraries, from much needed funding. Vote NO |
| 27 | Eliminates state commission on redistricting, returning authority for redistricting to the state legislature. | Prop 11 has yet to be implemented, but opponents want to dismantle it before even one district has been redrawn. Let's give Prop 11 time to work. Vote NO |
