As the North Bay representative for the Green Party of California Coordinating Committee, Shantz represents the Green parties of Napa, Marin and Sonoma counties on a state level. On campus, he’s the vice president of Napa Valley College’s Student Senate.

Green Party member Alex Shantz, vice president of the Associated Students of Napa Valley College, was one of the movement’s final speakers. He asked the small crowd to stand up before leading them in a chant of, “Who has the power? We have the power!”
At least one group - the Napa County Green Party - has announced formal plans to protest the tea party's presence in Napa. The Green Party will host a demonstration at Veterans Memorial Park in downtown Napa.
The Napa County Green Party is reaching out to other Green Party members and other progressives to protest against the Tea Party from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 27, in Veterans Memorial Park in downtown Napa.
The Napa County Green Party will hold a so-called "green tea party" to protest the Tea Party's kick-off to its national tour at the nearby Napa fairgrounds at that same time.
