Ten
things just about anyone can do to make the world a little
greener.

Tragedy in the
Gulf
|
The
devastating oil rig explosion and subsequent spill is likely to
create unimaginable devastation throughout the Gulf region. An
even worse tragedy would be if we didn't seize this opportunity to
end our addiction to oil once and for all. Visit EndOil.org

Universal
Health Care

Universal, single payer health care
is still the most effective way to provide health care. See Health
Care for All CA for more info.

Electoral Reform
|
National
elections since 2000 exposed massive problems across
the country. We need to not only fix the voting mechanisms, but the electoral system itself, with such common sense, democratic
ideas as proportional representation and instant runoff
voting. The 2002 Long Beach Mayoral race and subsequent city
council races are further proof
that we need change. Check out the Center for
Voting and Democracy's website for more details, or our own IRV
action page for local actions you can take.

Redevelopment
Reform
|
The
Long Beach Greens have been fighting against bad
redevelopment in Long Beach for years. A UCLA study (PDF, 600 KB) identified Long Beach as a case study
for what's wrong with Redevelopment. Check out the Long
Beach Citizens Against Eminent Domain Abuse website for current
activities.

Bring
the Troops Home!
|
Evidence
has been mounting since before the invasion that the War on Iraq is
a horrible, costly, and unnecessary bloodshed. Visit www.BringThemHomeNow.org
or the Coalition
for World Peace for ideas and actions you can take every day to
help bring this war to an end. Also check out the Department
of Peace campaign, to establish a permanent Cabinet level
department charged with averting war rather than perpetuating
it. What a wonderful concept!
