GREEN PARTY HOLDS JUNE 9 STATE CONVENTION IN STOCKTON, CA

STOCKTON, CA – The Green Party of California – whose national party remains the only major party with nationwide ballot access that accepts no corporate donations – announced that it will hold its first state meeting of 2018 over the weekend of June 9-10, in the city of Stockton in San Joaquin County.

The weekend meeting takes place at the Wentworth Education Center, Burwood Room, 2707 Transworld Drive, Stockton, CA.

The convention will feature a 10:25am Saturday morning panel with the organization Tri-Valley CAREs entitled “High explosives testing facility outside of Tracy / Mountain House.” The panel will highlight the failure of the Republican and Democratic Parties to put a stop to testing of weapons of war, which Green Party representatives say directly endanger the lives and wellbeing of Californians.

Green Party spokesperson Laura Wells said, “It astounds us that in supposed ‘liberal’ California, the Democrats and Republicans who currently run the state are still allowing California to be the testing ground for expensive, high tech, toxic and radioactive weapons of war. Billions of dollars are wasted on these weapons, meanwhile our communities are poisoned, the world is terrorized, and Californians are told we cannot afford Universal Health Care or great schools for our next generations. There is no excuse for it. The Green Party is growing, and we plan to challenge their destructive values."

Green Party spokesperson Erik Rydberg pointed out that statewide Green Party meetings have doubled in size compared to meetings in previous years. "We are seeing more newly registered Greens and active counties. Since the dismal presidential election of 2016, the state party has grown by a whopping 50% adding 12 new counties in 2017. Young Greens, many of whom, like myself, are former Bernie Sanders supporters, are fed up with the status quo of the Republican and Democratic parties, and are organizing to make dramatic change in this world; change that will end the U.S. obsession with perpetual high tech wars upon other nations.”
