Former presidential candidate, and 2 state gubernatorial candidates criticize
decision granting corporations 'free speech' rights, ability to buy elections
in California
SACRAMENTO (January 27, 2010) - A former Presidential candidate from
California - and two
current California gubernatorial candidates - are strongly criticizing last
week's U.S. Supreme Court case that, in effect, allows corporations more
opportunity to buy elections in California, and around the U.S.
The
Citizens
United vs. Federal Election Commission decision nullified legislation
efforts to limit corporate influence in elections, by ruling corporate
contributions to candidates are "free speech."

Green Party Assembly candidate garners 13 times party registration in
Special Election; Urges winner to adopt Instant Runoff Voting to save
taxpayers money
SANTA ANA (January 13, 2010) - Green Party State Assembly candidate Jane
Rands collected an astounding 13 times her party's registration here Tuesday
night in the 72nd Assembly District seat vacated by a lawmaker nabbed who
boasted about sexual exploits with lobbyists.
Ms. Rands said the relatively high vote for an underfunded political party
reflects growing voter disenchantment with the GOP and Democrats, and special
interest money.

Governor Budget Response:
Green Party hits governor's protection of the wealthy, while
punishing children, elderly and poorest in the state
SACRAMENTO (January 8, 2010) - Despite claiming "we all share
the pain," Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's budget proposal announced
today again protects his wealthy friends and imposes cruel, draconian
and life-threatening cuts on the poor, the elderly and children, said
the Green Party of California Friday.
"The failure by the governor and legislature address the
state's ongoing structural deficit leads to these unacceptable cuts.
There are answers, including reforms like a split roll for Prop.
13, closing corporate tax loopholes, a more progressive income tax and
promoting real Green jobs to create a more sustainable and just
economy," Lisa Green, Green Party candidate in the 53rd Assembly
District.

RESPONSE TO STATE of the STATE
Governor message falls short of being 'Green,' threatens state's
environmental health while wrongly privatizing public jobs, charges
Green Party of California
SACRAMENTO (January 6, 2010) - Gov. Schwarzenegger's State of the
State address falls woefully short of being "Green" - and, in fact,
threatens the environmental health of California - and holds hostage
schools and jobs by shamelessly promoting his pro-agribusiness $10
billion water bond proposal, charged the Green Party of California
Wednesday.
The state's environmental political party had nothing good to say
about the governor's speech:
"The governor again puts private business first, and the people
and planet last. His proposals to 'streamline' environmental
reports torpedoes necessary protections, and would take away
local community control and input," said the party in a statement
released Wednesday.

Air Resources Board decision to delay diesel emission rules would be
'criminal,' and will cost Californians dearly in lost lives, and medical
costs, charges Green Party
SACRAMENTO (December 9, 2009) - If planned life-saving regulations mandating
new, sensible diesel pollution are abandoned today (Wednesday) by the
California Air
Resources Board it could be considered a "criminal" act that
will inexcusably continue the suffering and shortened lives of millions of
people in the state, said the Green Party of California.
The ARB is deciding whether to delay - once again - the long-sought
regulations because industry now claims the recession has cut the use of
diesel-polluting trucks and equipment used in construction and the
regulations are not necessary. The regulations are due to take effect in
2011.

Green Party in California opposes Obama escalation
of Afghan War, calls it a 'betrayal' of voters; promises to run
more candidates for state, federal office as the true peace party
SACRAMENTO (December 1, 2009) - The Green Party of California today said it
opposes President Obama's expected decision to escalate the war in Afghanistan
in a speech Tuesday, and that it will run more Greens for state and federal
office because it is clear the Democratic Party - with few exceptions - is not
the political party of peace.
"President Obama, if he sends tens of thousands more troops in to the
quagmire in Afghanistan as expected, has betrayed those who voted for him
believing he was going to end the wrong-headed wars in Iraq and
Afghanistan," said the GPCA in a statement released Tuesday.
