Green Party of the United States

The Green Party of the United States (GPUS) is a federation of state Green Parties including the Green Party of California.

The Green National Committee (GNC) is the highest decision-making body of the Green Party of the United States. Delegates represent member state parties and accredited caucuses.  You can see what we have been working on by checking out our voting page.

The Green Party of California delegation to the GNC have been currently apportioned 25 delegates and 25 alternates. Currently, we have 25 delegates and 19 alternates, enabling us to cast all of our 25 votes.

Please consider applying to serve as a Green Party of California delegate on the GNC or volunteering for a GPUS committee.  For more information, contact Delegation co-chair Sanda Everette at sanda@greens.org.  Applications must be submitted 60 days before each General Assembly.

Every year there is an Annual National Meeting which is attended by National Committee (NC) Delegates.

PRESIDENTIAL NOMINATING CONVENTION DELEGATE SLATES

2012 Green Party Annual National Meeting

Any CA Green Party member could apply to be a delegate to the GPUS Presidential Nominating Convention on July 14th in Baltimore.  The deadline was April 5, 2012.

The Green Party of CA has been appportioned 65 delegates to the Presidential Nominating Convention (PNC).  The total number of possible delegates from around the country is 400.

For reference purposes, this was the procedure:

Registered Greens could apply in support of a particular candidate or through your county with no designation.

Those who applied directly to the candidates sent their application to campaign coordinators:

For the Jill Stein delegation, write  "Erika P Wolf"<wolf@jillstein.org>
For the Kent Mesplay delegation, write "Kent Mesplay"<info@mesplay.org>
For the Roseanne Barr delegation, write "Farheen Hakeem" <farheen@gp.org>

Those who applied through their county, sent applications to their respective County Council.

The candidate delegate slates and the county delegate slates were submitted to the Delegate Selection Committee. That committee will work with the lists as proscribed in the procedure.  After the Presidential Primary on June 5, the committee will intensify their work, selecting delegations proportionally to the results of the Primary election votes.  The procedure requires making selections from the slates, as necessary based on various diversity criteria.  The first criteria within each slate is a distribution by county.

Because of the date of the primary as compared to the date of the PNC, the committee will need to notify delegates very quickly and you will need to be prepared to make your final decision to accept the positon quickly as well.  If you are selecting to go, you will need to register immediately, though you can register now if you so choose. There are specific rules guiding how you will represent California

GPCA does not fund the trip of PNC delegates.  They may ask their county to help raise funds for expenses.

If you have questions, contact any member of the Delegate Selection Committee
